Wonderful Day in Madrid ( after learning to open the door)

It took a while ( several hours) for six American Engineers to figure out the train system and get the tickets to Toledo for tomorrow. It is definitely a case of too many brains ( not) working and too relaxed :) So, i hope we will get to the train station on time tomorrow.

We walked to Prado after that. It is one of the best museums in the world and one of those never ending ones. But we had to see everything and also the traveling exhibit. I think, I learned a little more about the art but not much and definitely will not bore you with details but there were paintings of every European artist you have ( or not) heard of from 1500 to 1900.  Bottom line is, there were all sorts of paintings depicting religious Christianity stories and there were equal number of portraits and stuff commissioned by rich and powerful. So basically Art was mostly for the powerful and rich. there were few scattering of still life ( fruits) and war... ( no pictures allowed in the museum).

After Prado we walked the recommended city walk that led through several gardens, monuments and beautiful buildings. We saw four weddings, people everywhere and just happiness all around . I am not sure where the failing economy is or unemployment..it looks like a big party all the time and it is not just tourists. One thing for sure, i have not seen any fat person here but lot of them smoke too. ( just an observation:)

Back to Plaza Mayor, we ate dinner of tapas, listened to the music and enjoyed the festivities. But, I also learned ( and let's not forget) about "inquisitions" that happened here for 0ver 500 years. People ( muslims, jews and other non believers) who were deemed to be "not Christian enough" were brought at this very place, were questioned, tortured and then burned alive, killed by what even means that was most cruel and spectacular. Thousands of believers cheered from the very same balconies I am writing this blog from.

I hope to just remind the readers to be aware of the past ...

It is interesting that one stale piece of bread won me a friend  and fed the pigeons and fishes

 Travel Buddies..

This is Casa De America. Our ego centric minds thought it must be USA related but when we asked, it is cultural centre for LATIN AMERICA and they were very clear in telling us that it had nothing to do with USA.
