Today we( Jagdish , Mohinder and I) took a break from the
marathon sight seeing. I put my foot down because I have been feeling deprived
of not dipping my toes in the sea when
it is warm water and is right here. We are actually in the resort town of Salou
where the Brits, the Russians and Germans gather to get the Sun. The beaches
are packed with young and old alike.
Our friendly café person told us that this crowd is one tens of the crowd that was
two weeks ago. This week onwards is the slow season and all the Europeans will
be gone till they show up next summer.
(And, I thought this was an overwhelming number of peopleJ
We walked on the beach and then walked some more. Came back
to a home cooked meal by Mohinder (she is just so nice about cooking). We were
able to get the fresh rotis made by a local Pakistani restaurant. This town, as well as many other towns like
this are home to many immigrants. One Romanian restaurant person was telling us
about all the benefits of living here (he was on his way to New Zealand 12
years ago, stopped in Barcelona and never left). We heard this type of story
from several people in Spain. It is a very welcoming society, nice weather,
fresh food and most of all wine is cheaper than water J. But ,then again, other
people complained about the amount of work ( too much) there is and how tired
they get after the tourist season. I keep wondering about the high unemployment
numbers here, something does nor add up.
After the afternoon siesta, we went out for the evening
stroll like all other Europeans. The shops were full and Desis were doing brisk
business. They are all really friendly. The beach walk and the sunset were very
pretty.
Rest of us came back from Barcelona. No admission to the Gaudi’s
family church (tickets are sold out), metros very crowded and two of us got
stuff stolen from the money pouch. Luckily nothing too important is stolen. (phone,
credit cards information, some money and few other things). Lesson: Just be very careful, avoid very
crowded places and take the advice from others. ( it is sort of sensitive
subject in this group J
)
Anyways, we are all back, talking and laughing. There is
something to be said about travelling with friends, glad that we have the
support.
I am happy that I got to play in the warm water, watch
beautiful sunsets, watch kids playing in the park and on the beach, talk to
local desis and others and in general enjoy the resort town. It is a very pretty
town, if you take the time to see it like the locals ( mornings and
evenings)..Good night
Lot of over weight and over tanned Brits
