More Sea therapy, warm rain and beautiful weather

Today is the last day of vacation.  Some of us went for a very long walk along the sea. It is like Point Lobos, of Monterey, Ca. Minus the Sea lions, Birds, fog, poison oak and dramatic cliffs plus warm water (which makes up for lot of stuff J

Generally, we are shopping, relaxing, packing and dealing with the lost(stolen) stuff. This may be the last blog from here unless I get the internet at the airport. I hope to have a nice flight and looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

The vacation has been wonderful. Spain and Portugal have lot to offer: history, nature, food and people. Both are wonderful places to visit and live. I wonder why would any person from these countries move to USA ?

As far as the trip, we learnt a lot and enjoyed even more. If you plan to come here, I may have many tips. I have to say, traveling with friends (or family) is mush more fun than any tour group. I had a wonderful time. Thanks to Vinaya, Greenie, Don, Mohinder and Jagdish.

Thanks for reading along….good night

Morning....

Walk..

Walking in the rain

Finally the sea ( Mediterranean) of Sun and Sun deprived people

Today we( Jagdish , Mohinder and I) took a break from the marathon sight seeing. I put my foot down because I have been feeling deprived of not dipping my toes in  the sea when it is warm water and is right here. We are actually in the resort town of Salou where the Brits, the Russians and Germans gather to get the Sun. The beaches are packed with young and old alike.
Our friendly café person told us that  this crowd is one tens of the crowd that was two weeks ago. This week onwards is the slow season and all the Europeans will be gone till they show up next summer.  (And, I thought this was an overwhelming number of peopleJ
We walked on the beach and then walked some more. Came back to a home cooked meal by Mohinder (she is just so nice about cooking). We were able to get the fresh rotis made by a local Pakistani restaurant.  This town, as well as many other towns like this are home to many immigrants. One Romanian restaurant person was telling us about all the benefits of living here (he was on his way to New Zealand 12 years ago, stopped in Barcelona and never left). We heard this type of story from several people in Spain. It is a very welcoming society, nice weather, fresh food and most of all wine is cheaper than water J. But ,then again, other people complained about the amount of work ( too much) there is and how tired they get after the tourist season. I keep wondering about the high unemployment numbers here, something does nor add up.
After the afternoon siesta, we went out for the evening stroll like all other Europeans. The shops were full and Desis were doing brisk business. They are all really friendly. The beach walk and the sunset were very pretty.
Rest of us came back from Barcelona. No admission to the Gaudi’s family church (tickets are sold out), metros very crowded and two of us got stuff stolen from the money pouch. Luckily nothing too important is stolen. (phone, credit cards information, some money and few other things).  Lesson: Just be very careful, avoid very crowded places and take the advice from others. ( it is sort of sensitive subject in this group J )
Anyways, we are all back, talking and laughing. There is something to be said about travelling with friends, glad that we have the support.

I am happy that I got to play in the warm water, watch beautiful sunsets, watch kids playing in the park and on the beach, talk to local desis and others and in general enjoy the resort town. It is a very pretty town, if you take the time to see it like the locals ( mornings and evenings)..Good night

Lot of over weight and over tanned Brits

Drinking Lassi, eating Samosa in a Pakistani restaurant ..Barelona

Today was the real exploration by 6 amigos from the USA. Early morning ran to the train station ( literally) to catch the 8am train. The train journey hugs the sea ( I have never been in a train so close to the sea) The track was practically on the beach.
Since the crowd was insane at the main Gaudy’s cathedral, we decided to see the home he built ( it is supposed to be his best poetic and artistic expression) and we were not disappointed. Gaudy was a loner as a kid and got inspiration from nature. This house is all inspired by the ocean, fish, birds and seashells.

Gaudy's Casa Baltia (not sure about the spelling:)

Oh, the food market. It is probably the biggest in the world. SO much food and so much variety of everything. Spices, nuts, pigs, fishes of all sorts and people. Tourists and locals alike. We wondered and argued if locals actually shop here. The question was: If they do not then why there is so much fresh meat and food around. Of course no conclusions. It is impossible to have six type A people agree on anything. This vacation has been a test and we are doing A ( may be not A+ J  on the test.

 Balcony's from 8th century..

 Christopher Columbus monument..

Bollywood is well and flourishing ( Frank: pay attention please :)

After that, we explored the Rambla to the Christopher Columbus monument and then just got lost in the narrow alleys. We discovered the Indians, Pakistanis and Bangla Desi’s ( All Desis) as co owner of the restaurant. Got to drink Mango Lassi, eat samosas and talked about the desi life in Barcelona. They seem to be flourishing and happy.

Came back happy and not exhausted. My recommendation is try to do as much on your own as you can. You discover amazing things, see the locals and somehow not get so tired. May be just stay away from what the tour books recommend J

Good night…
